Bipolar Disorder - When To Seek Medical Care

An individual suffering from bipolar disorder symptoms can never be forced to seek professional help; instead they should be encouraged and supported to find a qualified mental health provider. There are several situations, when a person suffering from bipolar disorder is required to be seen by a medical professional, such as changes in personality extreme moodiness, ruin relationship with others or start to affect a person’s life.
When changes in appetite and sleep start affecting health, a person is required to be evaluated. Usually, when a person fears the stigma of suffering from mental illness they might not want any help. At such situations they should be made aware that several other things may also be responsible for there changes in behaviour and mood swings.
The person suffering from bipolar disorder should seek for medical assistance when the mood swings becomes severe and they are unable to perform any functions at home or work. A person who has thoughts of suicide with a specific plan about how to take his or her own life should be immediately hospitalised until their mood is stabilised.
