Change negative thinking
It is a very vicious cycle where depression leads to negative thoughts cropping up in your mind which leads to depression all the more. For getting out of this cycle, you should replace negative thoughts with realistic thinking. Socialise with positive people and this will help in improving your thinking too.
Cultivate supportive relationships
When depressed, people usually go in to a shell of their own where they retreat from the most treasured relationships too. Turning to friends and family is the best way to overcome the distance that depression has caused. You can join a support group which helps in relieving from depression.
Develop healthy lifestyle habits
Physical health always affects mental health. You may be ignoring your health due to depression but changing your lifestyle to a healthy one may help you greatly.

- Avoid drugs and alcohol
- Healthy sleep habits
- Nutritious diet
- Sunlight
Team activities may be taken up as they greatly help in improving the self esteem. One should try to actively participate in his own recovery. Be patient with your recovery. Reward yourself for every accomplishment that you make and you will recover very quickly.
