One of the major causes of depression is that it runs in the family. According to research, depression forms like manic depression and bipolar depression have genetic basis. But in the case of other forms of depression, it has not been proven yet. As depression directly affects the mood, behavior and thinking of the person so it can be pass down in families.
So if you have a family history of depression so there is a chance that you can also suffer from it. Some researches also prove that if women are depressed and anxious at the time of pregnancy then there is a greater chance of passing these tendencies to their child. So it is very much important to detect the depression in pregnancy.
Depression can also be triggered due to many other conditions as well so to fully understand the link between physical causes of depression, and depression itself, a close examination of the thinking styles associated with depressive behavior must be made.
So, the question arise that “Is Depression Hereditary”? But we cannot say that it is completely a hereditary problem as someone may be inclining towards depression if any other members of their family suffered from it, but this condition does not fully guarantee about that the person too will become depressed from that condition.
