Depression in people can cause sleep problems due to the disturbed thoughts of the person. More than eighty percent of the people who are depressed suffer from problems of sleep. There are various problems when these people try to sleep which is usually a trouble in going off to sleep. This is because sad thoughts do rounds in our mind and we find it difficult to go to sleep. Frequent waking up during the night and early waking in the morning following which it is difficult to sleep are other problems that are faced.
Even if a proper sleep is attained, the people do not feel fresh and are drained even after a proper sleep which mars their proper routine. Night sleep is the time when our body gets refreshed after the day’s efforts. But this fails to happen in the people who are depressed. Also, failure to sleep even after long hours in the bed may invite bad thoughts that may worsen your mental state. It may also happen occasionally that people in depression may sleep for long hours. This is slightly rare but not counted out altogether.
Even if the person has slept, REM sleep occurs earlier in the night. REM sleep is the time when there is rapid eye movement while you are having dreams. This may also tire out the person. Healthy sleeping habits should be cultivated by the people if they want to ensure improvement in their sleep to wake up fresh.
